Pro-Khalistan Jagmeet Singh Steps Down After Loss In Canadian Federal Election, His Party NDP Loses Official Status

Canadian politician and New Democratic Party (NDP) leader Jagmeet Singh has announced his resignation following a crushing defeat in the federal elections that saw his party lose its official status.

As reported by CTV News, Singh not only failed to lead the NDP to electoral success but also lost his long-held seat in Burnaby Central, British Columbia—coming in third after a redistribution altered the riding's boundaries.

The NDP failed to secure the minimum 12 seats required to maintain its official party status in Parliament.

“It’s been the honour of my life to lead the NDP and to represent the people of Burnaby Central. Congratulations to Prime Minister Carney, and to all the other leaders on a hard-fought campaign. I know this night is disappointing for New Democrats. I am disappointed that we could not win more seats. But I am not disappointed in our movement. I am hopeful for our Party. I know that we will always choose hope over fear,” Singh posted on X after the loss.

Meanwhile, Mark Carney, who succeeded Justin Trudeau as Liberal Party leader, is poised to become the next Prime Minister after securing enough seats to form a government.

Carney’s rise followed Trudeau’s resignation amid dwindling support and strained ties with India, particularly over his claim implicating Indian authorities in the killing of Hardeep Nijjar, a designated terrorist.
