Manorama Khedkar, mother of former IAS probationer Puja Khedkar, has been granted interim bail by a local court in Belapur until the next hearing scheduled for 13 October, in connection with a kidnapping case, NDTV reported.

Manorama Khedkar had been on the run after allegations surfaced that she and her family kidnapped a truck cleaner.

The controversy erupted after a road rage incident in early September on Mulund-Airoli Road, Navi Mumbai, involving a cement mixer truck and an SUV.

Following the alleged collision, occupants of the SUV reportedly took the truck cleaner to a bungalow in Pune, allegedly linked to the Khedkar family.

Police traced the victim to the Pune property, but Manorama Khedkar allegedly refused to allow entry, releasing guard dogs to obstruct authorities.

The incident prompted multiple FIRs, including charges of kidnapping in Navi Mumbai and obstructing public servants in Pune.

Manorama Khedkar’s lawyers approached the additional district court seeking anticipatory bail, arguing that she was being wrongfully implicated and pledged full cooperation with the investigation.

The court granted interim protection from arrest, allowing her to remain free until the main hearing.

Police sources were cited by NDTV as saying that their submission to the court ahead of the 13 October main hearing will include forensic and technical evidence, tracking the SUV’s movements and verifying the timeline of events.

Authorities also indicated that additional charges could be filed as the investigation progresses.
