Pune Metro Extension: Work Begins On First Segment From Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation To Bhakti-Shakti Stretch

Construction activity on the long-awaited extension of Pune Metro from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Bhakti-Shakti Chowk has begun, according to a report by Hindustan Times.
The construction activity commenced on Tuesday (22 April) at Khandoba Mal Chowk, where a segment-launching girder was installed and four out of twelve segments already placed between piers 453 and 454. The other eight are expected to be finished over the next few days.
According to the Maharashtra Metrorail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro), the PCMC–Bhakti-Shakti corridor will have 151 piers and a total of 1,337 segments. 517 segments have been cast so far.
“The construction of the first span on the PCMC to Nigdi route has begun. We are committed to completing this route at the earliest," Shravan Hardikar, managing director of Maha-Metro, was quoted as saying by HT.
The extended corridor will have four new stations—Chinchwad, Akurdi, Nigdi, and Bhakti-Shakti, enhancing connectivity in major residential, industrial, and commercial areas of Pimpri-Chinchwad.
Chinchwad station will give direct connectivity to the Indian Railways station, religious places, and industrial areas.
Akurdi station will serve educational institutions and local industries.
Nigdi and Bhakti-Shakti stations will serve entertainment areas and function as important transit points for buses to semi-urban areas such as Dehu, Chikhali, Talegaon, and Vadgaon.
