The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has received approval from the state government to extend the deadline for completing its third Metro line, from Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar, to March 2026, Times of India reported.

According to PMRDA Additional Commissioner Deepak Singla, the extension was approved by the executive committee, which includes officials from the urban development and finance departments.

The 23 km stretch, originally slated for a March 2025 opening, has faced repeated delays, moving from March to September, then December, and now March next year.

Officials attributed the setbacks to difficulties in securing barricading permissions and shifting utilities, particularly along a key arterial road used for VIP and heavy commuter traffic.

Trial runs, earlier scheduled for September 2025, will now take place early next year, with the entire corridor expected to open at once.

Meanwhile, the timing for completion of the double-deck integrated flyover from University Chowk to E-Square junction, also under PMRDA, has been extended from June to October-end.

About 80 per cent of the project is complete, with one side already operational and the remainder nearing completion.
