Pune Metro has recently announced plans to build a 508 metre long foot-over-bridge (FOB) near the upcoming Chandni Chowk Metro Station along the Bengaluru–Mumbai National Highway bypass.

The new bridge will directly connect to the existing National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) foot-over-bridge, forming a seamless pedestrian corridor across one of Pune’s busiest highway stretches, Punekar News reported.

Once completed, it will allow passengers to safely reach the metro station from either side of the road without obstructing traffic flow.

According to officials, the FOB will particularly benefit commuters travelling between major destinations such as Bengaluru, Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, and Mumbai, as well as office-goers from Hinjewadi, Chakan, and Pirangut.

The structure is expected to reduce walking distances, ensure safer crossings, and decongest pedestrian zones near the Chandni Chowk junction.

As part of a larger initiative to improve mobility in western Pune, work has already begun on double-decker flyovers near Kothrud Depot and along Karve Road. These projects, along with the proposed foot-over-bridge, are expected to significantly ease both vehicular and pedestrian movement.

Residents had earlier voiced concerns about growing traffic congestion following the metro’s extension to Chandni Chowk. The FOB, therefore, is seen as a crucial addition to manage the expected surge in footfall and traffic effectively.
