Pune Ring Road: PMRDA Pushes Faster Land Acquisition; Urgent Farmer Talks Planned For Compensation

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has stepped up efforts to accelerate the Pune Ring Road project, a key infrastructure initiative expected to ease the city’s mounting traffic burden.
Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Yogesh Mhase chaired a review meeting on Tuesday (16 September), urging officials to submit land acquisition and measurement proposals for Phases 1 to 4 to the District Collector without delay.
The Ring Road, designed to circle Pune in four phases, has seen significant progress in Phase 1, covering Solu to Nirgudi and spanning three villages where land acquisition has entered its final stage.
Stressing the urgency of engaging with landowners, Mhase called for urgent meetings with farmers to finalise compensation using Floor Space Index (FSI) and Transferable Development Rights (TDR).
Alongside the Ring Road review, the commissioner also evaluated land acquisition linked to the Hinjawadi and Chakan road projects, both seen as critical to decongesting two of Pune’s busiest industrial and IT hubs.
The plan involves acquiring land, shifting water pipelines, and installing traffic signal systems, with instructions to complete all works by October through coordinated efforts of the concerned departments.
