Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is set to tie the knot for the second time today (July 7) at a private ceremony with close family members and AAP's top leadership, including party chief cum Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and party MP Raghav Chadda in attendance.

The 48-year stand-up comedian, whose meteoric rise saw him catapulted to the position of chief minister of the state, will enter in to wedlock with Dr Gurpreet Kaur, a 32-year old medical doctor, who originally hails from Pehowa in Haryana's Kurukshetra. Her family later shifted to Mohali in Punjab.

Tight security arrangements have been made at the residence of the chief minister in Chandigarh. Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar, deputy CM Dushyant Chautala and Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit are also likely to attend the wedding. The marriage will be solemnised at a Gurdwara as per the traditional Anand Karaj, in accordance with Sikh rituals.

This will be CM Mann’s second marriage. He earlier marriage ended after he filed for divorce from his first wife Inderpreet Kaur in 2015. He has two children from his first marriage —daughter Seerat Kaur Mann (21) and son Dilshan Singh Mann (17). Both attended Mann’s swearing-in ceremony at Khatkar Kalan in March this year. Inderpreet Kaur now resides in the United States of America.

Dr Kaur’s father Inderjeet Singh Natt is an agriculturist and has around 50-acre land in Madanpur in Pehowa. He also served as a village sarpanch. Dr Kaur's uncle Gurinder Singh, is also an Aam Aadmi Party leader, had been a Zila Parishad member. Both her sisters settled abroad after getting married. While one elder sister, Navneet Kaur Neeru, is an American citizen, the other, Kamaljeet Kaur Gaggu, lives in Australia.

Dr Kaur reportedly met Mann in 2019 and campaigned alongside when he campaigned to seek reelection from Sangrur Lok Sabha constituency.

An unverified handle going by the handle of Gurpreet Kaur shared a picture of herself on Twitter and wrote, "Din Shagna Da Chadya…" (the day of marriage has arrived).

Speaking to NDTV, the party's national spokesperson Raghav Chadda confirmed that Dr. Kaur has been associated with AAP for few years now and was closely involved with CM Mann's campaign during the recent Punjab elections. He also said that she had participated in Delhi election campaign.

“A new chapter in CM Bhagwant Mann's life is going to start today. I congratulate Mann saab's family, his mother and sister. It will be a small function. Only family members will attend.'' Chadda said.
