The Punjab State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) has busted an espionage network allegedly involving Jasbir Singh, a resident of Mahlan village in Rupnagar district.
Singh, who runs a YouTube channel named Jaan Mahal, is now under investigation for maintaining close ties with Pakistani operatives and persons of interest already under custody.
The case came to light during ongoing investigations into an espionage ring with terror links.
Jasbir Singh has reportedly been in regular contact with Shakir alias Jutt Randhawa, a person of Indian origin and a known conduit in a terror-backed spying racket.
His association extends to Haryana-based YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, who was earlier arrested for similar charges, and Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish, a Pakistani national and former official of the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi, who was expelled on charges of espionage.
Investigation revealed that Jasbir attended the Pakistan National Day event in Delhi at the invitation of Danish, where he allegedly interacted with Pakistani army officers and vloggers.
Investigators found that he visited Pakistan three times in 2020, 2021, and most recently in 2024. His his electronic devices contained multiple Pakistan-based numbers, which are now under detailed forensic scrutiny.
An FIR has been lodged at the SSOC station in Mohali, and the probe has now expanded to uncover the full extent of the network and its operatives.
In a separate operation on Tuesday (3 June), Punjab Police, acting on inputs from Counter-Intelligence Punjab, arrested Gagandeep Singh, alias Gagan, from Tarn Taran, for his alleged involvement in an espionage racket linked to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Khalistani elements.
Singh was reportedly in touch with Pakistan-based Khalistani supporter Gopal Singh Chawla for nearly five years, through whom he was introduced to Pakistani Intelligence Operatives (PIOs).
Investigations have revealed that he was engaged in sharing classified details, including troop deployments and strategic locations, posing a threat to national security.
"Recovered a mobile phone containing intelligence that he shared with the PIOs, as well as the details of over 20 ISI contacts. Thorough financial and technical investigations are underway to trace other linkages and establish the full scope of this espionage network," the police said.
