In a positive development for air travellers in Kerala, the Railway Board has approved the construction of a new railway station at Nedumbassery, aimed at providing seamless rail connectivity to the Cochin International Airport.

The decision marks a major milestone in fulfilling a demand that has persisted for years among passengers who rely on the airport located near Kochi.

The proposal, which had been under consideration for some time, has now received the green light following active intervention from Union Minister George Kurian.

In a statement, Kurian shared that the Railway Board has approved the construction of the station.

The project is expected to significantly enhance passenger convenience, offering travellers arriving at or departing from Kochi a direct and efficient transport option between the airport and key destinations across Kerala.

The plan reportedly gained traction after the Railway Minister’s visit to Kerala last year, when he conducted a detailed window-trailing inspection and personally identified the proposed site for the station at Nedumbassery.

Once completed, the new station is expected to improve multi-modal connectivity in the region, linking air and rail travel in a manner comparable to major international transit hubs.

Expressing gratitude, Kurian thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for their support in advancing the project, which he described as “transformative for Kerala’s transport network and air travellers.”
