In response to a longstanding demand from passengers and public representatives, the Railway Ministry has approved the extension of two passenger train services between Mangaluru Central and Kabaka Puttur to Subrahmanya Road (SBHR) as reported by The Hindu.

The decision, announced on 25 February, is expected to significantly benefit regular commuters, students, and pilgrims travelling to Kukke Subrahmanya.

Revised Schedule and Route

Currently, Train No 56625 and Train No 56627 operate between Mangaluru Central and Kabaka Puttur, departing at 5:10 am and 6 pm, respectively. As per the latest directive from the Railway Ministry, Train No 56625 will now depart Mangaluru Central at 4 am, reaching Kabaka Puttur at 5:18 am and Subrahmanya Road at 6:30 am.

The train will halt at Bajakare, Kodiambala, Yedamangala, Kaniyur, Narimogaru, Kabaka Puttur, Neralakatte, Bantwal, and Mangaluru Junction along the route. The Southern and South-Western Railway authorities have been directed to finalise an early date for implementing the extension.

Impact on Daily Commuters and Pilgrims

The approval of this long-pending demand has been welcomed by various stakeholders. Dakshina Kannada Member of Parliament Captain Brijesh Chowta, who had been advocating for the extension since his election, expressed gratitude to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State V Somanna for considering the region’s needs.

He also emphasised that the demand had been pending for nearly two decades, and he had raised the issue in the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha while also meeting the Railway Board Chairman and CEO to expedite the approval.

Regional Railway Committee Welcomes the Move

G Hanumanth Kamath, president of the Paschima Karavali Railway Yatri Abhivriddhi Samithi, congratulated Captain Chowta and former MP Nalin Kumar Kateel for their efforts in securing the extension. The move has been widely appreciated by railway users, who have long been demanding improved rail connectivity in the region.

With this extension, regular passengers and devotees visiting the renowned Kukke Subrahmanya temple will have better connectivity and travel convenience. The railway authorities are now expected to announce the final date of implementation soon.
