In the wake of heightened security measures post Pahalgam terror attack, a nationwide crackdown on illegal Bangladeshi nationals has intensified, particularly in Rajasthan. Acting on the directives of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, state authorities have launched an extensive operation to identify and detain suspected illegal immigrants.

As part of this drive, 1,008 suspected Bangladeshi nationals have been detained across 17 districts of Rajasthan, News 18 reported. The highest number, 394 individuals, were apprehended from the Sikar district alone. These individuals are being processed for deportation.

On Wednesday (14 May), the first batch of 150 detainees was transported under tight security from Sikar to Jodhpur in four buses. From there, they were flown to West Bengal aboard an Indian Air Force aircraft. Once in Bengal, the Border Security Force (BSF) will oversee their deportation to Bangladesh.

In a high-level meeting held on 30 April at the Chief Minister’s residence, Sharma emphasised that the elements that threaten the state’s security and social harmony will not be tolerated.

To facilitate the operation, Jodhpur’s Village Development Officer Training Centre has been temporarily converted into a detention facility. Security agencies, including the police and BSF, are working in coordination to manage the process and prevent any untoward incidents.

Tight security was maintained during the entire transfer, with personnel escorting the detainees along the route and at the Air Force station. The deportation process is being handled as part of a broader national campaign aimed at safeguarding internal security and maintaining social cohesion.
