In a major development, the Rajasthan Police’s Crime Investigation Department has detained a government employee and former aide to a senior Congress leader on charges of spying for Pakistan, the Indian Express reported.
The accused, Sakur Khan Manganiyar, was taken into custody in Jaisalmer on Wednesday (28 May) evening.
Sakur, who previously served as an assistant to a former minister, is suspected of leaking sensitive information.
According to police sources cited in the report, he had travelled to Pakistan multiple times in recent years and remained in contact with individuals across the border.
His arrest is part of a broader crackdown on espionage following the 22 April terror attack in Pahalgam. In response, India launched airstrikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir on 7 May.
Confirming the arrest, Jaisalmer Superintendent of Police Sudheer Choudhary was quoted as saying by IE, “Further details will be given by the intelligence branch of the state police.”
Sources revealed that Sakur, a resident of Manganiyar’s Dhani in Baroda village near the border, had been under surveillance for some time. His two bank accounts were also being monitored by law enforcement.
Authorities are also probing the involvement of the former minister with whom Khan once worked with.
Sakur will be transferred to Jaipur for further interrogation by central security agencies.
