Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will visit Morocco from 22 to 23 September at the invitation of Minister Delegate of National Defence Abdeltif Loudiyi, the Defence Ministry announced on Saturday (20 September), reported DD News.

This marks the first-ever visit by an Indian Defence Minister to the North African nation, reflecting growing strategic convergence between the two countries.

A key highlight of Singh’s visit will be inaugurating Tata Advanced Systems Maroc’s new manufacturing facility for the Wheeled Armoured Platform (WhAP) 8×8 at Berrechid.

The plant, India’s first defence manufacturing unit in Africa, represents a major milestone for India’s defence industry under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

During the visit, Singh will hold bilateral talks with Loudiyi to strengthen defence, strategic, and industrial cooperation.

He will also meet Morocco’s Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour to explore industrial collaboration and engage with the Indian community in Rabat.

Indian Navy ships have regularly called at Casablanca in recent years, and the proposed agreement will further consolidate these ties.

India-Morocco relations have strengthened since King Mohammed VI met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015 in India.

Singh’s visit is expected to give fresh momentum to the partnership, especially in defence and strategic sectors.
