The sacred city of Ayodhya is buzzing with anticipation as it prepares for the historic consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple, scheduled to begin today (16 January).

The highly anticipated event will culminate with the consecration of the idol of Ram Lalla in the grand temple on 22 January.

Organised by the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra, the week-long event is set to witness the participation of over 7,000 esteemed guests, including cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, as well as Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also be present during the occasion, adding to the significance of this momentous event.

Devotees from 150 countries are also expected to attend the grand inauguration.

The schedule for the consecration ceremony is as follows:

16-22 January: The week-long rituals kick off today, commencing with the atonement ceremony conducted by the host appointed by the temple trust, Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra. The ceremony will include the 'Dashvidh' bath, Vishnu worship, and the offering of a cow on the banks of the holy Saryu river.

18 January: Formal rituals commence with the Ganesh Ambika puja, Varun puja, Matrika puja, Brahmin Varan, and Vastu Puja, setting the stage for the consecration ceremony.

19 January: The lighting of the holy fire will mark the beginning of the day, followed by the establishment of 'Navagraha' and a 'havan' — a sacred ritual surrounding the divine fire.

20 January: The sanctum sanctorum of the Ram Janmabhoomi temple will be purified with Saryu water, leading to the Vaastu Shanti and 'Annadhivas' rituals.

21 January: The culmination of preparations includes bathing the Ram Lalla idol in 125 urns, culminating in its final placement in the sanctum sanctorum.

22 January: The main event unfolds with the 'Pran Pratishtha' ceremony from 12:30pm to 1pm, during which the deity of Ram Lalla will be consecrated.

The temple will remain closed for devotees on 21 and 22 January, reopening to the public on 23 January, allowing the devotees to experience the sanctity of the newly consecrated Ram Temple.
