Roads, Parks, Sports Facilities: Rs 1,000-Crore Push Cleared For Delhi’s Rural Areas

In its first meeting, the newly formed Delhi Rural Development Board approved 431 projects worth Rs 1,000 crore for the National Capital’s villages.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta chaired the meeting and emphasised the government’s commitment to enhancing rural infrastructure, reported The Indian Express.

“Villages are not only symbols of tradition and culture but also the lifeline of Delhi. Strengthening basic infrastructure in rural areas and speeding up development work is a goal of our government,” CM Gupta said, adding that funds will not be a constraint for village development.

These projects will upgrade roads, drains, ponds, community centres, parks, cremation grounds, and sports facilities across 30 Assembly constituencies and four Lok Sabha constituencies.

The initiatives will involve the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, the municipal corporation, and other agencies.

The funding will support constructing and renovating infrastructure such as drainage systems, chaupals, banquet halls, gyms, and libraries. The projects will also ensure improved access to drinking water and street lighting.

Officials highlighted that these developments will modernise rural life, bridging the gap between urban and village living standards in Delhi.
