Russia has dismissed European proposals for security guarantees to Ukraine, making clear it will not tolerate any NATO troop deployment on its neighbour’s territory, News18 reported.
The Kremlin reiterated that NATO’s military presence in Ukraine has been a longstanding red line and one of the central triggers of the conflict.
European allies of Kyiv are currently working on a framework of security guarantees aimed at shielding Ukraine from future Russian aggression as part of a possible peace settlement.
However, Russia views the inclusion of foreign troops in such plans as equivalent to direct NATO involvement, which it firmly opposes.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the deployment of European forces in Ukraine would amount to a NATO presence, a stance Moscow has resisted since the conflict began.

At the same time, the Kremlin highlighted ongoing efforts by US President Donald Trump to mediate an end to the war, describing his initiative as significant and expressing hope for its continuation.
Despite this, differences remain. Ukraine has resisted earlier Russian proposals that would have given Moscow an effective veto over foreign military support, arguing it would undermine its sovereignty.
Meanwhile, Washington has signaled that while US ground troops will not be sent to Ukraine, other forms of military assistance, such as air and intelligence support, remain under consideration.
Negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian representatives are ongoing, though the last formal meeting in Istanbul on 23 July lasted less than an hour.
No new date has been confirmed for further talks.
