Saif Ali Khan
Further investigation has led to the finding that the Bangladeshi national Mohammed Shariful Islam, arrested for the attack on actor Saif Ali Khan, first entered India seven months ago by crossing the Dawki river.
He then traveled to West Bengal, where he stayed for several weeks and used a local resident's Aadhaar card to obtain a SIM card. Finally, he moved to Mumbai in pursuit of employment and assumed a false identity, going by the name Vijay Das.
The Mumbai Police were able to trace his movements based on his interrogation. An initial investigation has revealed that the accused was using a SIM card registered under the name 'Khukumoni Jahangir Sekh' from West Bengal.
Shariful Islam is believed to have journeyed through several districts in West Bengal over a period of weeks. Despite his attempts, he was unsuccessful in creating an Aadhaar card and hence used Sekh's, sources reported.
Sources have revealed that Shariful Islam informed the authorities about his education up to Class 12 in Bangladesh, his two siblings, and his journey to India in pursuit of work. He alleged that he entered India through the Meghalaya border.
With the assistance of a labour contractor named Amit Pandey in Mumbai, he secured housekeeping positions in various pubs and hotels located in Worli and Thane, according to sources.
It was also revealed that he had been using mobile applications to communicate with his family in Bangladesh, as per police reports. The authorities subsequently instructed him to contact his family.
After a conversation with one of his brothers in Bangladesh, the police obtained his identification documents, which verified his nationality as Bangladeshi, according to sources cited by Indian Express.
According to police reports, Shariful Islam unsuccessfully tried to gain entry into another Bollywood superstar's bungalow near Khan's residence before his intrusion. His attempt was thwarted by barking dogs, causing him to flee.
While the incident was caught on several surveillance cameras, the footage is reportedly unclear, say insiders. A high-ranking police official disclosed that no formal complaint has been filed about this incident yet.
In the meantime, Dixit Gedam, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for Zone 9, stated that as part of their investigation process, the accused would be brought to the actor's home.
During a burglary attempt at his duplex home on 16 January, between 2 am and 2.30 am, Khan sustained severe injuries after being stabbed multiple times. He was rushed to Lilavati Hospital and underwent surgery.
