The son of Samajwadi Party (SP) member of Parliament (MP) Awadhesh Prasad, Ajit Prasad has been booked for allegedly kidnapping, threatening, and assaulting a man.

Notably, Prasad is expected to contest the Uttar Pradesh assembly by-poll from Milkipur, the seat that got vacant when his father was elected to the Lok Sabha from Faizabad.

However, before the by-elections could be announced, a complaint was filed by local property dealer Ravi Tiwari, accusing Ajit, along with Raju Yadav and 15-20 unidentified individuals for assaulting him.

As per the complaint, the group allegedly confronted Tiwari near the SBI branch in Faizabad on Saturday (21 September) afternoon and then dragged him into their vehicle, driving towards Raqaabganj.

Before releasing him, they allegedly threatened to kill him. Tiwari claimed that he was mediating a land deal between Ajit and local landowner Sheetla Prasad, Hindustan Times reported.

Following the incident, he lodged a formal complaint at the Kotwali police station. City Kotwali in-charge Ashwini Pandey confirmed that initial investigations support the allegations.

A case has been registered against Ajit Prasad, Raju Yadav, police constable Shashikant Rai, and 15 unidentified individuals. However, Awadhesh Prasad dismissed the accusations as politically motivated.

He further alleged the case was fabricated to distract from public outrage over police brutality in the Raunahi area, which led to the death of a man named Dukhiram.
