Sandeshkhali: Three Including Expelled TMC Leader Shahjahan Sheikh's Brother Arrested By CBI In ED Officers' Assault Case

Three fresh arrests were made by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) officers' assault case in West Bengal's Sandeshkhali.

Mafujar Molla, Sirajul Molla and Sheikh Alomgir were arrested taking the total number of CBI arrests to six in the case. Three earlier arrests were made on 11 March, The Economic Times reported.

Sheikh Alomgir is known to be the brother of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shahjahan Sheikh, who was expelled from the party after he emerged as the prime accused in the case.

The earlier arrests were of Didar Baksh Molla, Faruk Akunji and Pradhan of Sarberia Panchayat Jiaudddin Molla. All the arrested individuals are said to be related to Shahjahan Sheikh.

The ED officers were attacked on 5 January when they went to raid Sheikh in a ration distribution scam. Sheikh has been on the run since then and was arrested only after Calcutta High Court allowed CBI and ED to arrest him.

He is also accused of sexual assault and land grabs by the women of North 24 Parganas district's Sandeshkhali. Three TMC leaders have been arrested in this case.
