Sangam Ropeway Project In Prayagraj Set To Take Off After 7-Year Delay

After languishing for seven years, the Sangam ropeway project is finally moving forward.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has cleared most of the obstacles that stalled the venture and entrusted National Highway Logistics Management Limited with its construction, Times of India has reported.
The project will operate under a revenue-sharing public-private partnership model, ensuring both viability and efficient execution.
The newly approved alignment places the main station between Lal Sadak and Kali Sadak, near the Parade Ground, adjacent to the Maha Kumbh Parade Police Station and Prayagraj Mela Authority headquarters.
This adjustment, shifting from the earlier proposed location near Shankar Viman Mandapam, is intended to enhance accessibility for pilgrims and local residents alike.
The second station will be located near Triveni Pushp in Arail, providing optimal coverage of the Sangam area.
The elevated route is expected to become a major attraction during events such as Kumbh Mela and Maha Kumbh, improving both convenience and sightseeing opportunities.
The estimated cost of the project is Rs 210 crore. A Rajasthan-based company has been appointed as the implementing agency after meticulous surveys and design evaluations.
Representatives recently showcased a physical model of the ropeway at the Prayagraj Mela Authority headquarters.
First proposed seven years ago and revisited ahead of Kumbh 2019 and Maha Kumbh 2025, the project faced multiple administrative and technical hurdles before receiving final approvals in 2023–24.
