Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) received a bomb threat via email on Thursday (9 January), prompting swift action by university authorities and law enforcement agencies.
The email, which included a ransom demand of Rs 2 lakh, led to an extensive search operation across the campus.
Circle Officer Abhay Kumar Pandey confirmed the incident, stating that university officials promptly informed the police.
"We were informed by the university officials about the bomb threat mail. The bomb disposal unit and dog squad were immediately deployed, and all isolated spots on the campus were thoroughly searched by the police. The cyber teams are also investigating the origin of the email," he said.
The bomb disposal unit, dog squad, and cybercrime teams were mobilised to secure the campus and trace the source of the email.
AMU Proctor professor Wasim Ali assured that all necessary measures are being taken to safeguard the campus community.
"We have informed the police about the bomb threat mail, and the investigation is ongoing. At this moment, we do not know the identity of the sender. The email also contains a demand for a ransom of Rs 2 lakh," he said.
The university administration and police are collaborating closely to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Authorities have urged students and faculty to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.
