PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (4 January) raised concerns about attempts to disrupt peace through caste-based politics.
He urged citizens to resist such divisive efforts to maintain social harmony in rural areas.
While inaugurating the Grameen Bharat Mahotsav, PM Modi expressed optimism that villages would be instrumental in achieving the vision of a developed India by 2047.
Without naming anyone, the Prime Minister pointed out that some people were attempting to sow discord by spreading caste-based divisiveness.
"One more important thing to note is that the identity of our village is deeply rooted in its harmony and love. These days, some people are trying to poison society in the name of caste and weaken the fabric of our community. We must thwart such conspiracies and keep our village's shared heritage and culture alive, while also strengthening it," he said.
PM Modi criticised the previous governments for neglecting rural communities, noting that even decades after independence, many villages lacked basic necessities.
The Prime Minister asserted that his government is prioritising the empowerment of villages, particularly those overlooked in the past.
The Mahotsav, through various discussions, workshops and masterclasses, aims to enhance rural infrastructure, create self-reliant economies, and foster innovation within rural communities, news agency PTI reported.
Its objectives include promoting economic stability and financial security among rural populations, with a special focus on North-East India, by addressing financial inclusion and supporting sustainable agricultural practices.
