On Tuesday (25 March), a three-member committee appointed by the Supreme Court initiated its investigation into the alleged cash discovery case associated with Justice Yashwant Varma of the Delhi High Court, Hindustan Times reported.

In the course of the investigation, the official residence of Justice Yashwant Varma at 30, Tughlak Crescent in Delhi was visited by Justice Sheel Nagu, the Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice GS Sandhawalia, the Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court, and Justice Anu Sivaraman, a judge of Karnataka High Court.

It is reported that the judges took approximately 30-35 minutes to conduct an inspection of the house before departing.

The controversy erupted on 14 March after a blaze in the storage area of Justice Yashwant Varma's official home in the upscale Lutyens' Delhi neighborhood allegedly resulted in the unearthing of cash by fire and police officers.

Justice Varma vehemently refuted the accusations, asserting that neither he nor any of his family members had ever stored cash in the storeroom.

In his statement given to Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya of the Delhi High Court, Justice Varma expressed that the accusations of finding cash at his home seem to be a deliberate plot to falsely accuse and tarnish his reputation.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has officially suggested the relocation of Justice Yashwant Varma back to his original jurisdiction, the Allahabad High Court. The decision is being opposed by Allahabad HC Bar Association.
