Supreme Court Rejects ED Appeal Against Siddaramaiah’s Wife In MUDA Case, Karnataka CM Targets BJP

The Supreme Court on Monday (21 July) upheld the Karnataka High Court’s order quashing the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) notice against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s wife in the MUDA land allotment case, reported The Indian Express.
The court also strongly cautioned the ED against being misused in politically sensitive matters.
A bench led by Chief Justice B R Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran, while hearing the ED’s appeal, remarked, “Let political battles be fought before the electorate. Why are you being used”
The bench also warned ED counsel S V Raju, “Please don’t compel us to open our mouths. Otherwise, we will be forced to make some harsh comments about the ED. Unfortunately, I have some experience in Maharashtra. Don’t perpetuate this violence across the country.”
The case relates to allegations that BM Parvathi, the CM’s wife, received plots in an upscale Mysuru locality under a 50:50 land return scheme from MUDA, in exchange for 3.16 acres acquired by the authority.
Calling the verdict a “step towards justice,” Siddaramaiah said it “exposed the malice behind the case” and cleared their names. “This verdict upholds and protects that very belief,” he posted on X, affirming his faith in the Constitution.
The CM accused the BJP of misusing central agencies like the ED and CBI to harass his family. “This is not just an abuse of power but also a disgraceful and cowardly act,” he said.
Congress MLA Ponnanna said, asserting the SC recognised the political motive, “The MUDA sites were given when there was a BJP government… They should not talk about it if they have any moral conscience.”
