Supreme Court To Hear Isha Foundation Versus Father Case, Stays Any Further Action By Tamil Nadu Police Against Sadhguru

The Supreme Court on Thursday (3 October) transferred the case of a father against Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev's Isha Foundation from Madras High Court to itself following an appeal by the foundation.

Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud also noted that the High Court should have been circumspect before seeking a report on all criminal cases registered against the Coimbatore-based foundation.

The foundation moved to the Supreme Court after a team of around 150 personnel of Tamil Nadu Police and government officials inspected the foundation's Yoga Centre to check the conditions there.

The father had alleged that his two daughters were being kept at the Isha Foundation. However, noting the ages of the two daughters, the Supreme Court said that this habeas corpus ought not to have been maintained.

The daughters are currently 42 and 39 years old and were 27 and 24 years old when they moved to the foundation. Eight years ago, their mother had also filed a petition based on similar arguments.

However, both the girls have stated that they are residing at the foundation without coercion. The matter has now been listed before the Supreme Court for 18 October, LiveLaw reported.
