Amid the mounting political pressure, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin visited the residence of slain Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader K Armstrong on Tuesday (9 July) and expressed sympathies to his wife Porkodi.

Armstrong was the state president of BSP and was hacked to death by six bike-borne men near his house in Chennai on Friday. The BSP supremo Mayawati had demanded a CBI probe in the matter.

"I assured Sister Porkodi that those who are involved in the evil act of murder will be brought before the law and get severe punishment," Stalin said in a post on X.

"It is a government for all. A government that embraces everyone and protects the welfare of the poor will surely uphold justice! The police will carry out their duty without bias!" he added.

Following this, the Tamil Nadu government transferred the city police commissioner, Sandeep Rai Rathore and appointed ADGP Law and Order A Arun in his place.

Devasirvatham was previously ADGP, Headquarters and had also served as the state's intelligence chief. Rathore has been reassigned as the director of the Tamil Nadu Police Academy.

11 persons have been arrested in the case so far, while Tamil Nadu Police has linked the murder to the retaliation for the killing of gangster Arcot Suresh in August last year.
