Days after Tamil Nadu BSP chief K Armstrong was brutally murdered in Chennai, the Tamil Nadu government has decided to transfer the city police commissioner, Sandeep Rai Rathore.

ADGP Law and Order A Arun has been appointed as the new city police commissioner, while Davidson Devasirvatham takes over as the new ADGP Law and Order.

Devasirvatham was previously ADGP, Headquarters and had also served as the state's intelligence chief. Rathore has been reassigned as the director of the Tamil Nadu Police Academy.

This decision, issued by Home Secretary P Amudha, comes in the background of the murder of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) state president K Armstrong, who was attacked outside his home in Perambur by a group of men.

At a press conference, Rathore had stated that the case could not be considered an intelligence failure, as there was no prior intelligence and no active cases against Armstrong.

Chennai City Police have arrested 11 men, including the brother of the slain history-sheeter 'Arcot' Suresh, and have stated that Armstrong’s murder was an act of retaliation for Suresh’s murder in August 2023.

However, Armstrong had not been named as a suspect in that case.
