Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president MK Stalin has firmly opposed the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), asserting that it contradicts the fundamental principles of the Constitution.

In a press release, Stalin criticised the CAA for its discrimination against certain religious groups and its threat to the secular fabric of India.

MK Stalin said, "The government firmly believes that this Act which will create divides among the people will not yield any advantages and is entirely unnecessary. It should be repealed as it will only bring suffering to the people of India."

"I want to emphatically state to the people of Tamil Nadu at this time that the Tamil Nadu government will in no way allow the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act enacted by the Union Government, as it will damage the unity of the country and the Tamil Nadu government will not accommodate any law that causes harm to national unity," he added.

Stalin had assured the public, stating, "I give an assurance (to the people) that we won’t let the Citizenship (Amendment) Act set foot in Tamil Nadu."

He also stated, "As soon as we came to power in 2021, we passed a resolution in the assembly demanding the withdrawal of CAA. The DMK government will never allow the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act in Tamil Nadu."
