Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday (8 September) announced that his recent official visit to Germany and the United Kingdom has yielded investment commitments worth Rs 15,516 crore through the signing of 33 memoranda of understanding (MoUs).
These agreements are projected to generate employment for over 17,600 people across multiple sectors.
Of the total, 26 MoUs were finalised in Germany, valued at Rs 7,020 crore and expected to create more than 15,000 jobs.
Among the highlights was Knorr-Bremse’s commitment of Rs 2,000 crore to establish a state-of-the-art facility in Tamil Nadu, focusing on railway braking systems and doors, creating 3,500 jobs.
Renewable energy major Nordex Group pledged Rs 1,000 crore to expand its operations, generating 2,500 jobs and reinforcing the State’s position in green industrialisation.
Another significant deal came from ebm-papst, which will invest Rs 201 crore over five years to strengthen its Global Capability Centre and manufacturing base, adding 250 jobs in HVAC, automotive, and industrial applications.
In the United Kingdom, agreements were sealed across defence, aerospace, shipbuilding, renewable energy, textiles, design, and education.
Rolls-Royce is in discussions to expand its International Aerospace Manufacturing Private Limited (IAMPL) joint venture in Hosur, including a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) hub, R&D facilities, and training centres.
Wilson Power has committed Rs 300 crore, while Britannia RFID will invest Rs 520 crore in Tamil Nadu projects. Collaborations with the University of Exeter, Ecole Intuit Lab, and Lloyd’s List will further strengthen the State’s focus on education, design, and research.
