In a major step toward developing Telangana’s second commercial airport, the state government has issued orders to release Rs 205 crore for land acquisition related to the Mamnoor airport project in Warangal, reported The Times Of India.
On Saturday (26 July), the release of fund will facilitate the purchase of 280 acres for the revival of the long-defunct airport, which was once active during the Nizam era.
This funding comes after the Centre approved the project in March.
For quicker execution, the Warangal district collector received authorisation to acquire the land.
Additionally, the state has approved the transfer of 253 acres—free of cost and free from encumberances—to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to support runway expansion and other airport infrastructure.
The government also issued a crucial no-objection certificate (NOC) for the Mamnoor airport.
Welcoming the decision, Warangal MP Kadiyam Kavya thanked Telagana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for allocating the land acquisition budget.
She also appealed to the civil aviation ministry to expedite the execution of this long-pending project.
Once completed, Mamnoor airport is expected to improve regional air connectivity and boost the local economy.
The airport aims to establish Warangal as a key centre of cultural, historical, and commercial importance in Telangana.
