Terminal 2 At Delhi Airport To Undergo Six-Month Transformation Amid Soaring Passenger Demand

Terminal 2 of Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi is set for a major transformation as Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) embarks on a comprehensive six-month redevelopment aimed at modernising the facility, according to report by Financial Express.
The revamp is part of DIAL’s broader strategy to enhance capacity and meet growing passenger expectations.
The upgrades include the installation of six state-of-the-art passenger boarding bridges (PBBs) imported from South Korea.
Each bridge features autonomous docking technology, enhanced wheelchair accessibility, swing doors for operator safety, and side-covering cushions for added passenger security and aesthetic appeal.
To boost passenger comfort, advanced HVAC systems will be deployed to provide year-round climate control and cleaner indoor air.
The renovation will also introduce an integrated fire safety mechanism and substantial visual enhancements, including skylight ceilings, modern flooring, smart washrooms, and better road connectivity.
Monsoon preparedness is also being addressed through new canopies at the terminal forecourt, ensuring dry, seamless access for travellers.
The redevelopment extends airside, with apron and operational zones receiving upgrades to accommodate increased aircraft movement.
With Delhi Airport ranked ninth globally in 2024, handling nearly 78 million passengers, the project highlights its commitment to staying competitive and future ready.
Terminals 1 and 3 are expected to absorb the passenger load during the renovation, according to the Aviation Secretary.
“The need of the hour,” said DIAL CEO Vidhe Kumar Jaipuriar, describing the project that promises to elevate both operational efficiency and passenger experience.
