News Brief
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav.
After Samajwadi Party (SP) national president Akhilesh Yadav called the Special Task Force (STF) Special Thakur Force, the party's media cell has linked the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) to Thakurs.
This comes amid aspirants' protests outside the UPPSC's Prayagraj office demanding the conduct of Review Officer (RO)-Assistant Review Officer (ARO) and Provincial Civil Service (PCS) exams in a single shift.
The opposition parties like SP and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) have extended support to the protesting students but the SP media cell went a step ahead by adding a caste angle to the UPPSC.
In a post on X, it questioned, "Has CM (Chief Minister) Yogi (Adityanath) created Uttar Pradesh Public Thakur Service Commission?" referring to the incumbent UPPSC Chairman Sanjay Srinet, a Thakur.
It added that after working on deputation in the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Srinet was appointed as the UPPSC Chairman in 2021 by the Yogi Adityanath government.
The media cell accused the 'Thakurvadi Yogi government' of lathi-charging the protesting students in Prayagraj and that the UPPSC has become blind and deaf under the influence of casteism.
Notably, Thakurs, also called Rajputs, are known to have voted for the SP in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. Despite this, the party aims to antagonise this community to consolidate its backward vote bank.
"There is no hope of justice in this Yogi government. Thakur CM, Thakur Chairman. This Thakurvad of CM Yogi is snatching the rights of backward and Dalits, shame on him," the post concluded.
