Amid ongoing tensions with US President Donald Trump, tech billionaire Elon Musk has floated the idea of a new political party, "The America Party."
This development comes after a poll Musk conducted on his X platform garnered 80 per cent support for creating a new political entity in the US.
The feud between Musk and Trump escalated on Thursday (5 June) when Musk publicly condemned Trump's multi-trillion 'big, beautiful" tax spending bill, calling it a "disgusting abomination."
Trump said he was "very disappointed" with Musk's reaction, questioning the future of his friendship with the billionaire.
Trump retaliated, accusing Musk of betrayal and threatening to cut government contracts.
Musk further fanned the flames by sharing a post on social media advocating for Trump's impeachment and criticising the president's signature tariffs, predicting a recession.
On Sunday (7 June), Trump dismissed Musk, stating, "I’ve been so busy working on China, working on Russia, working on Iran, working on so many things. I’m not thinking about Elon. I just wish him well."
After polling on his X post suggesting formation of a new party conclude with 80 per cent supporting the move, Musk said,"The people have spoken. A new political party is needed in America to represent the 80% in the middle! And exactly 80% of people agree. This is fate."
