In a big boost for rail connectivity in the Northeast, three new trains were flagged off and a new road over bridge was launched in Assam on Friday (3 January).

"The newly introduced trains include the train no. 55818/55817 (Guwahati – New Bongaigaon – Guwahati) Daily Passenger, train no. 15911/15912 (Tinsukia – Naharlagun - Tinsukia) Tri-weekly Express and train no. 12047/12048 (Guwahati – North Lakhimpur - Guwahati) Bi-weekly Jan Shatabdi Express," the Railways Ministry said in a statement.

During the flagging off ceremony, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that these services are expected to bolster regional connectivity and improve travel options for passengers across Assam and neighbouring areas.

The ROB was constructed by Northeast Frontier Railway at a total cost of Rs 72 crore, replacing a level crossing gate at Tetelia station yard.

The flagging off ceremony at the Guwahati railway station was attended by Union Minister Vaishnaw, Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles Pabitra Margherita and other dignitaries.
