At least three terrorists were reportedly killed on Wednesday (11 September) during an encounter with security forces in the upper regions of Basantgarh, located in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district.

While officials confirmed an exchange of fire with the militants, believed to be hiding in a shelter at Khandara Top, Indian Express sources indicated that drone footage from the area revealed three bodies.

According to sources, security forces, along with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, had received intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the area and launched a search operation from multiple directions.

However, their bodies could not be recovered immediately as the search teams came under further fire when approaching the hideout. Reinforcements have been sent to the area, and more details are awaited.

Earlier this week, two terrorists were killed by Indian Army thwarting an infiltration attempt and a large quantity of war-like stores were recovered in the Rajouri district.

The terrorist encounters come a week before the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. The voting will be held in three phases starting from 18 September and the votes will be counted on 4 October.
