FASTag lanes at a toll plaza.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has reported a total toll collection of over Rs 61,408 crore across India’s National Highways during the financial year 2024–25.
Of this, Rs 28,823.74 crore was collected at toll plazas operated directly by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on public-funded highways, according to the Road Transport and Highways Ministry.
The remaining Rs 32,584.41 crore came from concessionaire-operated toll plazas under public-private partnership (PPP) models such as BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer).
In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister said, "As on June, 2025, there are a total of 1,087 fee plazas operational on National Highways. User fee being collected from these fee plazas for the Financial Year 2024-25 is Rs.168.24 Cr. per day".
In respect of fee plaza under public funded project, the fee leviable shall continue to be collected for such section of the National Highway, bridge, tunnel or bypass, as the case may be, to be revised annually in accordance with the NH Fee rules.
He added that the revenue collected by the Government from user fee collection is deposited in Consolidated Fund of India (CFI) and the funds provided through budgetary allocations are utilised for the development of National Highways.
