Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis
Leader of Opposition and former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday (10 March) gave a fiery speech in the state assembly over the alleged high-profile suicides in Maharashtra in recent times.
Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh earlier alleged that IAS officer from MP Rajesh Kumar Srivastava had died by suicide in Nagpur as he knew he will not get justice in a BJP ruled state.
Over Dadra Nagar MP Mohanbhai Delkar's suicide Deshmukh similarly said, "He was tortured there but he chose to commit suicide here. It shows how much faith he had in Maharashtra and its government".
Countering Deshmukh, Fadnavis said that the Home Minister is happy about people dying by suicide in Maharashtra but he does even not know that Raipur is a city in Congress ruled Chhattisgarh and not Madhya Pradesh.
"Are you turning Maharashtra into a new destination, dear Tourism Minister Aditya Thackeray will the state now turn into a suicide destination instead of a tourist destination", Fadnavis said.
"Why do we spend so much money on the police budget, so that they can kill people", Fadnavis rhetorically asked over Sachin Vaze's alleged role in Mansukh Hiren's death.
When NCP MLA Bhaskar Jadhav purportedly attempted to corner Fadnavis over Anvay Naik's suicide, the former Maharashtra chief minister reminded him of a Supreme Court verdict to the contrary.
"Bhaskar dada we are not scared of threats, initiate an inquiry against us if you want, but why are not taking action against Sachin Vaze. I am openly inviting the Home Minister to launch an inquiry against me. Are you going to save Sachin Vaze by making threats", said Fadnavis.
