Maha Metro officials have confirmed that a detailed project report (DPR) for a proposed metro line connecting Kharadi to Pune Airport will be completed within the next three months.

“The length of the stretch is expected to be 3–4 km. Feasibility studies of the route, the distance, and how many stations it will have will be part of the DPR that is being prepared,” Maha Metro PRO Hemant Sonavane told TOI.

The new link is poised to provide long-awaited relief to air travellers struggling with last-mile connectivity.

At present, the nearest metro station is Ramwadi, from where passengers must rely on PMPML feeder buses, cabs, or autorickshaws. Many have expressed dissatisfaction with the inconsistent bus services and refusal of auto drivers to cover the short distance.

Mohol addressed past promises, including plans for PMPML buses to enter the terminal. He explained, “AeroMall, which manages the traffic to and from the airport, came up under a PPP model... there are certain conditions in the agreement which need to be considered.”

Airport Director Santosh Dhoke noted that discussions also focused on runway extension and connectivity. Mohol revealed that nearly 200 acres would be needed, with a land exchange arrangement in progress between the Indian Air Force and the Airport Authority of India.
