Trial runs on Phase I of Metro Line 9 — the elevated corridor between Dahisar East and Kashigaon in Mira-Bhayandar are set to commence following the energisation of the line for traction power, Times of India reported.

Spanning 11.4 km, the corridor is an extension of the operational Metro Line 7 and marks a crucial milestone in Mumbai’s expanding metro network.

Once operational, Line 9 will offer a long-awaited rail-based alternative to commuters from the fast-growing Mira-Bhayandar region, easing the load on the Western Express Highway (WEH) and reducing crowding on Western Railway’s suburban trains.

“We are one step closer to operationalising a critical link in Mumbai's expanding Metro network,” said a senior official from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

Metro Line 9 will link Dahisar East to Mira-Bhayandar via key locations such as Kashigaon and Mira Road, serving as a feeder corridor to Line 7, which currently runs between Dahisar East and Gundavali (Andheri East).

The Line 9 will also enable quicker access to the domestic airport via upcoming Line 7A, and onward to South Mumbai via Line 3A.

According to MMRDA, travel times could be cut by 50–75 per cent, depending on road conditions.

Commercial operations on this line are expected to begin before year-end, pending clearances from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS).
