Trials Conducted Successfully, Patna Metro Priority Corridor Set For Launch Later This Month

Patna is inching closer to the launch of its long-awaited metro rail service, with trial operations now extended beyond the depot and key inspections conducted along the Red Line.
On Sunday (7 September), a metro train successfully completed a trial run between the Patna depot and Bhootnath station, marking a significant milestone for the city’s first urban rail system, the Patna Metro Rail Corporation informed.
During the trial, key systems underwent rigorous assessment. Officials confirmed that rolling stock fitness was checked to ensure the train’s performance and safety on live tracks, while the overhead electrification (OHE) system was verified for reliability.
Track fitness, covering alignment and stability, was also examined. The trial is seen as a precursor to more advanced dynamic runs and full system integration tests, which will pave the way for commercial operations.
The Red Line, stretching from the New Pataliputra Bus Terminal to Bhoothnath, has been identified as the priority corridor and is likely to be inaugurated by the end of this month.
Stations along the route have been designed with structured parking and provisions for effective passenger management, while authorities have indicated that crowd control strategies will be in place as ridership grows.
Chief Secretary Pratyay Amrit, who recently inspected the Zero Mile Station, highlighted the importance of proper traffic planning around key nodes.
