Two Agniveers were killed after a shell from a field gun exploded during a firing exercise at the Artillery Centre in Maharashtra's Nashik district.

The mishap took place on Thursday afternoon at the Artillery Centre in the Nashik Road area, PTI reported citing a police official.

The Agniveers had arrived at the Centre from Hyderabad for training.

According to the official, a team of Agniveers was engaged in firing practice with an Indian field gun when one of the shells exploded.

The duo suffered injuries and were immediately rushed to MH Hospital in Deolali, where they were pronounced dead, the official stated.

Agniveers Gohil Vishwaraj Singh (20) and Saifat Shit (21) were killed in the blast, he said, PTI reported.

Based on a complaint by Havildar Ajit Kumar, a case of accidental death has been registered with the Deolali Camp police, and an investigation is currently underway, the official added.

The incident comes days after a 24-year-old Agniveer was killed in an explosion in a fire extinguisher during a mock drill in Rajasthan's Bharatpur on 4 October.

During a mock drill in a training camp of Golpura Army Area, a fire extinguisher exploded and Agniveer Saurabh Pal got injured, DSP Anil Jasoria said.

Pal was rushed to a hospital for treatement, where he succumbed to his injuries.

He was a resident of Bhakhara village in Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj district.
