Indian intelligence agencies arrested two men who were part of a Pakistani plot to carry out a terror attack in Delhi, Times of India reported.
Two suspects, including Ansarul Miya Ansari, a Pakistani asset allegedly sent to extract sensitive military information, have been arrested for plotting a terror attack in Delhi.
According to the report, the operation to nab them started in January when authorities got a tip that an Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) spy from Pakistan would soon travel through Nepal to reach India.
The spy had been tasked with gathering geolocation information, pictures, and classified documents about military installations.
Intel teams discovered that the stolen intelligence was anticipated to help the plot of an attack that was in the early stages of planning. But investigators didn't get a breakthrough until the middle of February.
Ansari was finally arrested on 15 February in central Delhi. He was in possession of sensitive documents and was about to leave the country via Nepal.
"Our men were making efforts to collect information about Pak-backed terror outfits active in different parts of India and sleeper cells providing logistic support to them."
"In view of this, proactive steps were taken to prevent any such planning of a terror attack in Delhi-NCR. Sources were activated, which culminated in the tip about this suspect's travel plans."
Ansari was later turned over to the police and an FIR under the Official Secrets Act was registered.
The investigation also revealed the involvement of Ranchi resident Akhlaque Azam, who was supplying Ansarul with logistical support in India.
According to sources cited by the report, the two were in close contact with their handlers in Pakistan and their mobile devices contained suspicious conversations. Azam was arrested in March.
A chargesheet has been filed against the duo and further investigation is on to identify others involved in the terror plot.
