Two Indian Army soldiers sustained injuries during a fierce exchange of gunfire with terrorists in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir today (10 August).

The encounter began this afternoon in the Ahlan Gadole area of Anantnag district, according to the J&K police.

The two soldiers were injured after terrorists targeted them while they were on patrol during an anti-terror operation in the forest in the Kokernag subdivision.

The gunfight erupted as the terrorists engaged the patrol, leading to the injuries.

Special forces of the army have been deployed in the operation, aiming to flush out terrorists who are suspected to be foreign nationals.

The encounter is still ongoing, and security forces are working to resolve the situation.

Today's gunfight marks the second significant encounter in Kokernag within the past year.

In September 2023, a Commanding Officer, a Major, and a Deputy Superintendent of Police were among the personnel killed during a gunbattle with terrorists in Kokernag forest.
