Two soldiers were killed and one sustained injuries during a training exercise at the Mahajan field firing range in Bikaner, Rajasthan, on Wednesday (18 December).

The incident marked the second fatal incident at the range this week.

Defence Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amitabh Sharma said the mishap occurred when the charger exploded while they were loading the ammunition.

"Two soldiers have died in the incident and one is injured," he said, news agency PTI reported.

Local police arrived at the scene soon after receiving information about the explosion.

"Three soldiers were practising with the tank. Ashutosh Mishra and Jitendra died in the explosion. The injured soldier has been taken to Chandigarh in a helicopter," Circle Officer Lunkaransar (Bikaner) Narendra Kumar Poonia said.

Mishra hailed from Deoria in Uttar Pradesh, while Jitendra belonged to Dausa in Rajasthan.

Their bodies were taken to the Suratgarh military station.

This comes days after gunner Chandra Prakash Patel died on Sunday when he was hooking a gun with the gun towing vehicle.

The vehicle suddenly slipped backwards, causing fatal injuries to Patel.
