In the wake of the Udaipur horror, the CM Ashok Gehlot-led Rajasthan government issued orders to transfer 32 police officers including the Inspector General (IG) and Superintendent of Police (SP) of Udaipur. It also replaced the SP’s of 10 districts including Udaipur, Karauli, Dungarpur and so on.
Praful Kumar has been made the IG of Udaipur, while former IG Hinglaj Dan has been transferred to the Human Rights Department. SP Manoj Kumar has been replaced with Vikas Sharma.
It is to be noted that the government had already suspended SHO Govind Singh and ASI Bhanwarlal on charges of negligence leading to the murder of Hindu tailor.
The order came late at night after CM Ashok Gehlot’s visit to Lal’s grieving family, on 30 June.
Lal’s Family Calls Out Gehlot Government’s Minority Appeasement
Lal’s son, reportedly, told the CM, that his father’s life could have been saved if the police had acted.
The family members have not complained of not being provided security, even as tensions run high.
Rajasthan Police Blamed for Leaking Case Details
Though the investigation has now been completely taken over by National Investigation Agency (NIA), it has not stopped Rajasthan police from leaking information and making conjectures on the alleged Pakistani links of the two accused, Mohammad Riyaz and Mohammad Ghous, to the media.
As per a Dainik Jagran news report, NIA has shown its displeasure at the unprofessional conduct of the state police, putting the investigation in jeopardy.
The fact that Rajasthan police is going out of its way to give out statements on selective information also leads to charges that they are trying to manage the narrative and diffuse any attempts to hold the growing threat of Islamic extremism within the state responsible for the heinous act.
