Unending Woes: Mahua Moitra Gets Eviction Notice For Government Bungalow After Losing Lok Sabha Membership

The Directorate of Estates has issued an eviction notice to former Trinamool Congress (TMC) Member of Parliament (MP) Mahua Moitra.

Moitra, who was expelled from the Lok Sabha last month, has been asked to vacate her government bungalow immediately.

The bungalow had been allotted to her during her tenure as an MP.

Earlier, Moitra was instructed to vacate the premises by 7 January, following the cancellation of her allotment.

However, she did not comply with the directive, leading to the recent eviction notice.

After the failure to comply with the previous order, the Directorate of Estates plans to send a team of officials to ensure the timely vacation of the bungalow.

She was accused of accepting gifts from businessman Darshan Hiranandani and sharing her user ID and password for the Parliament website with him.

On 4 January, the Delhi High Court had advised Moitra to approach the Directorate of Estates with a request to continue staying in the government accommodation temporarily, citing exceptional circumstances.

The court had clarified that authorities could permit a resident to overstay for up to six months under specific conditions.

While allowing her to withdraw the petition, the court emphasised that the Directorate of Estates must decide her case following due process.

However, the latest eviction notice comes after Moitra's failure to adhere to previous notices and marks a continuation of the legal proceedings related to her expulsion from the Lok Sabha.
