Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in the Union Budget 2025, unveiled a comprehensive plan to boost India's agricultural sector, focusing on productivity, self-sufficiency, and financial support for farmers.

A key highlight is the Agriculture Plan, which will cover 10 rural areas and focus on 100 low-productivity districts, aiming to uplift 1.7 crore farmers.

A six-year mission has been announced to achieve Atmanirbharta (self-sufficiency) in pulses and oilseeds, reducing India’s dependence on imports.

Additionally, a Makhana Board will be set up in Bihar to promote its production and market expansion.

Financial support for farmers has also been strengthened. The Kisan Credit Card loan limit has been increased from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, providing easier access to credit.

To ensure a steady supply of fertilizers, new urea plants in Assam and three revived dormant urea plants will support agricultural needs.
