A court in Banda, Uttar Pradesh has reportedly ordered a judicial inquiry into the death of gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari.
Ansari died due to a cardiac arrest after being rushed to a hospital in Banda on Thursday (28 March) evening.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate’s (CJM) court of Banda on Friday (29 March) directed additional CJM to conduct the probe into Ansari’s death and submit the report in a month, news agency PTI reported.
Earlier in the day, Mukhtar Ansari's son Umar Ansari alleged that his father was subjected to slow poisoning in jail.
“My father had told us he was being subjected to slow poisoning,” Umar Ansari told reporters.
Ansari, a five-time MLA from Mau, Uttar Pradesh, had been in jail in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab since 2005.
He was brought in an unconscious state to Rani Durgavati Medical College in Banda, Uttar Pradesh, by prison officials after he vomited.
"The patient was provided immediate medical care by a team of nine doctors. But, despite their best efforts, the patient died due to a cardiac arrest," the bulletin, which was in Hindi, said.
Meanwhile, security personnel in several districts of Uttar Pradesh have also been put on alert on Friday.
Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC have been imposed across the state and teams of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) along with the local police have been deployed in Banda, Mau, Ghazipur and Varanasi.
