A US military C-17 aircraft carrying 104 Indians, who were deported from United States as part of President Donald Trump's initiative against illegal immigrants, has landed in Amritsar on Wednesday.

The plane had taken off from a Texas airport on Tuesday.

Each deported Indian national on the flight is 'verified', signalling India's involvement in the deportation process, NDTV reported citing sources.

President Trump initiated a stringent crackdown on illegal immigration soon after assuming office.

Earlier, US military aircraft had repatriated immigrants to Guatemala, Peru, and Honduras.

This will be PM Modi's first visit after Trump took over as US President for the second time.

Trump has reportedly said that Prime Minister Modi had assured him that India "will do what's right" when it comes to taking back illegal Indian immigrants.

According to a Bloomberg News report, India and the US have identified 18,000-odd Indian migrants who entered the US illegally.

External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar has earlier said New Delhi is open to the "legitimate return" of Indian nationals living 'illegally' abroad, including in the US.
