After nine incumbent MLAs won Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, the state is set to hold by-polls for these Assembly or Parliamentary constituencies, whichever the elected representative decides to vacate.

Moreover, the Samajwadi Party (SP) has also been demanding the disqualification of its six rebel MLAs, who cross-voted in favour of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Rajya Sabha elections. This can increase the number of constituencies for by-polls.

The rebel SP MLAs are Manoj Pandey of Unchahar in Rae Bareli, Abhay Singh of Ghoshaiganj in Faizabad, Rakesh Pratap Singh of Gauriganj in Amethi, Ashutosh Maurya of Bisauli in Badaun and Vinod Chaturvedi in Kalpi in Jalaun.

Notably, the INDI Alliance of SP and Congress won in all these Parliamentary constituencies, where these Assembly constituencies fall. Moreover, the INDI Alliance won 43 Lok Sabha seats in the state, while the BJP-led NDA won 36 seats.

They are Finance Minister Suresh Khanna, Agriculture Minister Soorya Pratap Shahi and Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh. They will further appoint other ministers for by-polls as the ministers have been asked to remain active by UP CM.

Amid other preparations, Yogi Adityanath has also directed the initiation of impartial and transparent recruitment processes in various government departments to counter the opposition's propaganda of unemployment.

Ministers Yogendra Upadhyay and Dharmpal have said that the CM has asked them to increase the pace of development works. Minister Rajni Tiwari said that Yogi Adityanath told them how to bring the work forward.
